Virtual Media Overview

The Virtual Media subsystem enables the remote attachment of ISO images and raw file systems directly to the target server.

By emulating a physical USB mass storage or CD/DVD drive at the hardware level, this architecture provides seamless pre-OS media access without requiring a complex PXE network infrastructure.

Core Capabilities

The system supports highly flexible media workflows specifically engineered for bare-metal provisioning and remote recovery scenarios.

  • Bare-Metal ISO Mounting: Attach bootable disk images to execute zero-touch operating system installations or deploy low-level diagnostic utilities.
  • Flexible Source Selection: Provision images directly from the appliance's local storage repository (SD card/eMMC) or stream them dynamically from a remote administrative workstation via the client application.
  • Hardware-Level Emulation: The target host recognizes the attached virtual media as a standard USB block device, ensuring universal plug-and-play compatibility across legacy BIOS and modern UEFI environments.

Provisioning Workflow

From the perspective of the target server, the virtual mounting process is completely transparent and mimics the physical insertion of a USB drive.

  1. Image Staging: Transfer the required `.iso` or disk image file onto the isolated USBridge local storage.
  2. Media Activation: Mount the staged image utilizing the USBridge Client application or directly through the appliance's built-in LCD interface.
  3. Host Initialization: The target server's hardware enumerates a new USB mass storage device, making the bootable media immediately available within the native BIOS/UEFI Boot Menu.
